SHELL BELLE COUTURE
Shell Belle Couture has launched the ‘Smoke and
Mirrors’ collection for SS12 that rediscovers the Jazz
Age of the 1930s. Designer Michelle Blenkinsopp
was inspired by Boardwalk Empire, New York music
halls and fl apper girl opulence when creating this
collection, which fuses nostalgia and modernity in
a range of lingerie and swimwear embellished with
Art Deco vintage jewels. The colour palette includes
shades such as fondant, butter and pistache, and
fabrics inlude a crepe de chine vintage peony print,
lace and gold printed, beaded chiffon.

Shell Belle Couture has been chosen by Intima Magazine, one of the leading European trade journals, as number 2 in their top ten selection of best new brands for SS12.

On Sunday I visited the Lingerie Collective show at The Music Rooms , Mayfair. It is a fantastic meeting of independent lingerie brands, that provides an inspirational and innovative trade experience.
One brand I found particularly inspiring was Shell Belle Couture with their luxury vintage inspired lingerie. I was extremely taken with the use of Spanish Mantillas within the designs – an idea I find intriguing and inspirational. A mantilla is a lace veil that a Spanish woman will respectfully wear to church and other solemn occasions, to cover her head and shoulders. I suppose it is quite a juxtaposition then, to use a demure item such as a mantilla within lingerie, but somehow this brave move by Shell Belle Couture is not offensive or insensitive. No, in fact it is quite ingenious and really very beautiful. As you can see from my picture, the lace is exquisitely intricate and delicate,"

It has been a while since I have been quite this taken with a design concept, but I find this such a beautifully executed idea and I am looking forward to owning a piece myself.
Further to this, the recent campaign for Shell Belle Couture perfectly captures the essence and feel of the brand. Shot in Mauritius (a place very close to my heart), the images exude a luxury and purity that has not been this expertly conveyed in a long time.
